Do High Yield Safe Investments Exist?

When investors are burned by roiling capital markets, they understandably flee the stock market and seek safer havens. Indicators to the contrary notwithstanding, investors are actually fairly smart. Yes, they characteristically buy high and sell low, and they are subject to the foibles of the human condition writ large upon the market’s stage, but they know when to exit a market.

Sadly, this exit strategy often comes too late, after tremendous losses have already been sustained. Finding high yield safe investments is a moot point after this has occurred. Nevertheless, investors flee to the money and bond markets in order to preserve what capital they have left.

These are safe investments because bonds are guaranteed by the federal government and money market accounts are completely liquid. Investors are still wary sometimes even though they have their money in the safest investments around. The emotional acuity of investors is predictably irrational; they withdraw their money into cash at the slightest hint of volatility.

While this approach is counterproductive, it is understandable given the incredible events the world has witnessed in the American capital markets in the last three years. The truth of the matter is that while higher returns come with higher risk, respectable returns can still be found in safe investments.

Traditional safe investments are bonds, specifically government bonds. Supposedly the safest kind of investment is inflation-protected government bonds. Bond rates and prices always rise when investors expect calamity, so they can be a good investment during times of crisis.

Another good investment is money market savings accounts. The returns on this kind of investment are nowhere near the returns on, say, securities backed by investment property mortgages. However, they can still provide returns that are above the interest rates on most savings accounts. Money market savings accounts provide complete liquidity while maintaining decent returns, enabling investors to rest easy.

Jane Fairfax: The Secret Story of the Second Heroine in Jane Austen’s Emma

Jane Fairfax: The Secret Story of the Second Heroine in Jane Austen’s Emma, a Joan Aiken book, provides a refreshing view into the events that we see in the Austen’s earlier book, Emma. The story dwells on a character seen in the original Emma book that readers might have overlooked and did not get to be properly acquainted with, and perhaps at one point, have even hated.

In this Regency Jane Austen Emma sequel, Aiken takes us on a journey from the eyes of Emma’s childhood friend and eventual rival, Jane Fairfax. The limelight is set on her, beginning from her life in childhood until she matures.

The story centers on Jane Fairfax and her life, as she was brought up by her refined and sophisticated aunt and grandmother since she became orphaned. Having Emma as her childhood playmate, they practically grew up together and readers get to see some jealousy involved along the way. Eventually, a family friend brings Jane to London to get her some education and help her become a governess so that she might support herself. Readers also get to see Jane returning to the place she has known to be home, being engaged discreetly to Frank Churchill.

What readers saw initially only through the eyes of Emma in the original is now presented from a new perspective. The new characters in the Emma sequel are very interesting and capture reader attention, whereas the existing characters still reflect the essence they had in the original story.

Readers would agree that this was a brilliant Joan Aiken novel that is very much well done and is highly recommended. She was effectively able to showcase the histories of the childhood of both Jane and Emma, and, through this story, provides an implicit reasoning behind the protagonists’ individual disposition and relationships.

It is interesting to note that this story takes place before the time where the events of the original story where this is derived from are tackled. It gets even more interesting as the perspectives deviate and the distinction of viewpoints becomes apparent as the two storylines mesh.

This Joan Aiken novel is very much successful in retelling the events that occurred in Emma while dwelling on Jane’s childhood and why she was made to be that way. As the novel introspects into the character of Jane, readers discover and get to unfold the intricacies of why Jane is how she is, even the version of her in Emma.

Indeed, this Joan Aiken book is successfully undertaken.  It is recommended for those who are fond of rooting for the underdog. As a Jane Austen Emma sequel, readers see the equally worthy protagonist from the other side of the coin. The author writes in a manner that is distinctly Joan Aiken, yet is reminiscent of Jane Austen’s style and flair.

A Few Differences Between Male and Female Liposuction

There are some significant differences between liposuction for a male patient versus a female patient. Many people still associate cosmetic surgery procedures like liposuction with women. But recently there has been a surge in the number of men who are walking into clinics and requesting liposuction surgery to remove pockets of unwanted body fat. This may be a sign of vanity to some traditional schools of thought but it is the way our society is trending. Still there are major differences due to the biological nature of a male versus female body.

Men in general tend to request liposuction in very predictable areas of the body. These areas focus on parts of the body where fat is difficult to lose through exercise and dieting. Usually these are the facial regions, abdomen, chest or back. In parts of the body like the arms and legs where it is easy for a man to build muscle, the mass of the muscle is enough to provide the sculpted feature they want in those areas. You will probably never see a man request arm liposuction or thigh liposuction since these are not areas of concern.

Liposuction for the chest is often as a treatment for gynecomastia which is a condition that causes the male breasts to be enlarged. It can be glandular growth or simply the accumulation of excessive fat tissue. If it is glandular growth then some hormonal medication might be prescribe but liposuction is very effective in the case of fat accumulation. Any doctor of even your plastic surgeon should be able to make the diagnosis.

The cost for male liposuction will often be higher to a comparable procedure on a female body. That is because men in general are larger and thus the treatment area is larger in size. Also, the fat cells of a male body tend to be much more fibrous than a female. This makes it more difficult to eliminate fat from a male liposuction patient.
