Collectible Depression Glass
There are times when you have simply just had enough of the clutter around your home and you want to start throwing things away. If you ever feel that way when you are digging around the old boxes in your attic, stop yourself and control your urge long enough to check out some items on eBay. The collectibles market is vast. If you have never explored the world of collecting, you probably would be amazed to learn of some of the more unusual items that sell for very nice prices online. Everything from glassware to playing cards is collected by someone in the world, and many of them will pay top prices to get just the right piece for their collection.
One of the more commonly found items found stored away in people’s attics is glassware. This is an area of collecting that can be quite complicated. There are many people who collect old glass, but they can be a picky bunch. One pattern may be worth much more than a different pattern produced by the exact same maker. The difference may be the scarcity of the pattern or just the fact that people think that one pattern is more attractive than the other.
Although there are all kinds of glass collectors, people often enjoy collecting depression glass. Much of this glass was made, as you might have guessed, during the Great Depression. It was cheap to make and the pressed designs made it efficient to produce. Makers added a variety of elements to the glass when it was being manufactured to give the glass different colors. Green depression glass is very popular and is sometimes called uranium glass. The reason some people are drawn to it is because it will actually glow under ultraviolet light. Other colors of depression glass are also very collectible. Blue depression glass is a beautiful color and often looks fabulous in country kitchen decor. Pink depression glass is also one of the more popular colors to collect. It’s rosy color and patterns are much sought after and often bring good prices at auction.
